  • Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed, today there has been a significant up surge in the number of new pages created. This is because I currently have DestinyWikiBot, a semi-automated program, pulling information from the Destiny API.

This means any items missing from the wiki is being pulled over with the information available. All pages created by the bot have been flagged as an API edit and will be published as a list so editors can check through the pages and add any information available only through the game.

This period of editing up surge should only last another couple of hours. In the mean time if you have any queries just let us know here.

    • So what about when the not edits an existing page, deleting the in game photo to replace it with an icon. Should we put the photo back, when all said and done?

Will it get every item? So far, I see holes in the basic/uncommon arbor list.

    • Also, should we remove the API tag once we edit a page with updated data?

    • The bot is putting new articles in categories that are different from what is normally used (e.g. "Legendary Warlock Helmet" rather than "Legendary Warlock Helmets"). This can be seen on these two pages; Dusk Tread VII (Helmet) and Dusk Tread VII

      Is this intentional?

    • Hi all,

Sorry for the late reply (timezones :/).

The bot was supposed to skip pages which already exist and record them on a log for manual editing, however for some reason programming artefacts on my part meant some pages were updates and information was lost. I've tried to keep track of these pages.

If this has happened you can go to the history and click compare edits, then use the old edit data to update the new edit data. Effectively merging the old and new page. If you do this just remove the API tag.

SnowWolf75 wrote: Also, should we remove the API tag once we edit a page with updated data?

Yes, when the information has been updated simply remove the API tag.

Yeah this was planned originally. It was less code heavy than trying to pluralise all the categories. I'll run a bot through those categories to move them back to the correct category today.

    • Does it understand that some classes share an item of the same name? Hunters and Warlocks seem to have overlap in the faction armor - Justicar's Boots from New Monarchy, Exodus Grips from Dead Orbit - but also exotics like Crest of the Alpha and The Armamentarium.

    • I don't think it does. Since some of the articles it added were overwritten by the bot itself. There was one example that I saw, but I can't remember the article name. It was faction armor though.

    • As that was short sightedness on my half. All of the re-edits and overwrites have been logged here: User:T3CHNOCIDE/Armour. I was going to go through and merge the edits/split the pages. If you guys would like to help out, if you go through those history pages and look for differences and add them to the new page that would be awesome.

    • That's quite a few pages... In any case happy to lead a hand when I get the chance. Though some of the pages will need to be renamed. Speaking of which, do you have any preference regarding armor that has the same name for different guardian classes? (such as Watchers' Boots (Leg Armor))

    • Any help is appreciated, but there's no rush. And I'd maintain the same structure. Armor name (Class)

    • I just noticed that the DestinyWikiBot is adding weapons. Are the statistics (rate of fire, impact, etc.) based on percentages?

Yeah, I've just started it on weapons - however I've updated and fixed the bugs experienced during the armour run. I'll start it on vehicles next once I've coded it.

Also the values are pulled directly from the API. As for how they are used I'm not sure yet. I'm going to do one last run through the API after I've finished to get the absolute max and minimum values for each stat to try and decode what the values mean.

    • I found your post on the Bnet forums. Were you able to get the API to work, or it is still down for you too?

    • Btw, DestinyWikiBot doesn't actually have the Bot flag on its account. Not sure if it matters, but thought I'd bring it up in case it was missed.

OK. I wasn't sure what the minimum and maximum values meant either, except that they were percentages.

Unfortunately I didn't figure out how to fix it. But I managed to get a dump of all the items just before the endpoint went down. I have a feeling they took it down in preparation for the DLC launch, to stop people looking at the items just before release.

As for the flag I've contacted Wikia staff, they'll hopefully add a flag in the next 1-2 days.

    • That makes sense, about the endpoint. There are a number of sites that already do scraping of data anyway.

True. Which is why I thought we'd best start doing it to. If you need the list of item hashes I'm using give me a shout :)

    • I've noticed that DestinyWikiBot is creating duplicate pages.

Ex: I Protest and I PROTEST

Should we merge the duplicates and the originals?

      Do we merge these pages?

Ah. I didn't consider pages which were capitalised incorrect. The one on the left is the correct spelling, so we'd just merge the information and then redirect the I Protest page to the correct version (I PROTEST).

        Loading editor
    • If there are lots I'll write a program to find duplicates and merge them.

I found the zip of api dumps that someone posted, so I'll work with that. From the little I looked at it, it should supply me with enough info.

Are you using pywikibot, perchance? I made AmarokBot on tinymonsters.wiki, based on the pywikibot code. I don't have the linux machine I ran it off of at the moment.

Nah, the program is written from scratch. I usually use AWB if I need normal maintenance edits. Everything else I usually use my own Python API and personalised changes.

To add onto what T3CHNOCIDE said, the bot's spelling and capitalization is going to be correct, since it's being pulled directly from Bungie. It's difficult to tell capitalization from in-game because all items are fully capitalized.

    • Some of the articles the bot is creating have a range for a value that is the same. Look at the history of A.1F19X-Ryl for what I mean.

Its only a small thing, just thought I'd point it out.

    • Yeah I picked that up a bit into the weapons update. I'm going to go through and correct the pages missed out.
