A ship schematic could be brought to Amanda Holliday in the Tower to be exchanged for a random jumpship. Ship schematics could be obtained randomly from Loot Chests, completing Crucible matches, and turning in bounties.
In Destiny: The Taken King, Amanda Holliday began selling these jumpships directly, and the Ship Schematic was made unobtainable.
