  • I'm planning on building a small app that takes the .json file from an API call, and makes it usable for editors. Any chance I could get a look at some of the logic that the DestinyWikiBot uses while processing the data? If not, then a list of the attributes and their respective number representations.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Josh!

I noticed that the DestinyWikiBot created some new pages for emblems. Should those be merged with the Emblem page? If not, I was thinking that we could create page for all of the emblems, instead of using a table chart. The reason is because the table chart only shows the image in the emblem (if that makes sense), and not the background where our clan names and Gamertags/PSN ID are located. I was thinking of creating new pages for each emblem with full images of those emblems (with the image and the background).

Hey Nazo (or Overlord, which ever you prefer :P ). Yeah I pulled all the emblem pages with the main icon, but I have the intention of running though again and adding the nameplates too (the backgrounds).

For the sake of granulation we may as well leave the pages as they are without merging. Specific information on where to get the emblems, trivia, galleries and better referencing can be expanded on, on their specific pages. We could link the list we already have to the existing pages though.

  • Hey Josh, long time no talk hope all has been going well. Great work on the Ghost-Bot you created, I was curious if there was a way to utilize the Destiny API to create a daily-updated template for current bounties and/or for Xur's inventory. I woud love to have mainpage templetes for both of these auto-update and I was just wondering if you knew whether that was possible for not, thanks dude!

    • There should be a way to display/hide the information based upon what day of the week it is, so modifying the main page to remove wouldn't be nessecary. Pulling the actual data on what Xûr has that week would be dependent on the bot polling the inventory at the right time. It seems there _might_ be a way to get his inventory, but it's unofficial.

    • Hey dude. Yeah long time no speak! Everything is great on my side, how are you?

I've actually been working one something like this, at the moment I have a work around for the weekly/daily missions and daily bounties here. I've also been working on a new page design.

At the moment these are work arounds because the API endpoint for vendors and advisors requires authentication through either XBL or PSN. PSN is fine and working alright, but the XBL login is really stupid (Who uses JS to authenticate?). I might have to bite the bullet and just make a PSN account.

    • I have a PSN account or two, if you would like to share code. I'll also have a Linux server box in my home soon, to run the scripts off of. Actually have an Xbl account too, but no console anymore.

  • Observing the bot's posts, I've noticed that some lowercase links work and some do not. For example, the links hand cannon, auto rifle, pulse rifle, machine gun, rocket launcher, and fusion rifle do not work while the links scout rifle, sniper rifle, and shotgun do. Is there a way we can fix this? I thought new "lowercase" redirect pages would work, but I'm fairly new to wikia work and I'm unsure.

I don't want to go around making new redirect pages just to find out I'm messing things up, hehe...

    • Hi there, I had planned to fix this later but it's probably best to get it done as soon as possible. Redirecting to category pages or to capitalised pages will do the trick (assuming the pages exist).

To redirect you just put #REDIRECT and then a link to the page. For example:

      #REDIRECT [[page]]
      #REDIRECT [[category:page]]

If you want feel free to try. Remember, all edits can be reversed and undone :) If not let me know I'll go through and fix them.

    • Well, scout rifle works because there's already a redirect in place...

See, the wiki will automatically uppercase a word in an attempt to find a match. It doesn't seem to understand multiple words, so the redirects have to be put in place.

Making a redirect is easy. Open the editor, switch to Source, and put in something like this:

      #REDIRECT [[Hand Cannon]]

    • Its all taken care of.
Oh, and for reference, the site considers Scout rifle the same scout rifle. Wikia has such funny name capitalization quirks...

Could you plz fix these I'm not good at editing.

You should put something up so only admins should edit so we don't get any more griefers like this guy

  • I want to make a complaint about Vektor0

I believe he is willfully undoing my edits to spite me.

As such, I request that you examine the items in question and rule on whether or not the actions were justified

  • Hey Techno,

Nick here, from Staff. How's it going?

First, I wanted to congratulate you guys. Since the launch of Destiny, your Community App has surpassed Elder Scrolls to become our most popular app. If you want specific numbers, let me know and I can get them for you, but you guys are getting lots of PVS.

So, I have been receiving a lot of special contact requests about a category on the community app that is not working properly, Rare Weapons. As it turns out, the category just redirects to one page, Rarity.

This is causing a curation issue, because the app can't read that redirect, so all of the subcategories are showing up as 'no content'. Apparently this is a popular topic, because we have been getting a lot of requests pointing out this issue.

I was hoping you or your team could go in and fix the categorization so as to work properly in the Special:CuratedContent. If there is more information that can be added/pages created/or links linked around this topic, all the better.

Finally, I'd just point out that Special:CuratedContent is an awesome tool for you guys. You represent the most popular Community App we have, making it one of the most popular apps we have period. It would be great if you can focus as much attention as you can manage to keeping Special:CuratedContent up to date and fully decked out. If your admin team does not have the community app yet, let me know, and I will give you the links for where to download it for apple and android.

Let me know your thoughts on this! The sooner we can get rare weapons up and running on the app, the better!

    Take care, Nick@Wikia 22:57, February 4, 2015 (UTC)

    • Thanks for the notification, Nick!

I had to make some pretty major changes to Special:CuratedContent to make it better match our current categorization scheme. Though the app automatically updated with the new scheme, the Top Picks and Trending still showed removed sections, which came up as empty. Clearing the app's data cache fixed this problem for me and it now shows only the correct sections, but I don't think many of our readers will know to take that step.

    • Hey Vektor0,

Thanks for taking care of this so quickly! I think the caching issue you mentioned will be very temporary. We haven't gotten any complaints about it.

That being said, I'd point out that through the tickets we have been receiving from users, the exotic categories were very popular. Especially, people were fans of categories like Exotic Weapons and Weapons by Rarity. I noticed that there is now only the Rarity page. It may be a worthwhile endeavor to focus some efforts on expanding that section, categorizing it, and adding it to the curation. However, I leave that decision to you, the admins.

Thanks again for taking care of this! Excellent community, great job!

  • Hi, T3CHNOCIDE!

Destiny has been nominated for Excellence in Technical Achievement, Excellence in Musical Score, and Excellence in Multiplayer for the SXSW Awards, which Wikia is officially hosting this year! In order to drive any fans to the voting page that might be interested in rallying for their favorite game, we were wondering if we could place a badge on your main page that links to it?

    Best regards,

    Raylan

  • Salutations, My name is Usyler.  I like cats and I am one.  Now I am inquiring as to whether this wiki can have more people patrolling it, me being an admin I'm trying to make an example of.  Anyway, I am a proud owner of the destiny PS4 glacier white bundle.  And I am able to tell you that I have moderate knowledge of the game.  So back to what I was saying before, I basically want admin/bureaucrat status.  I also know how to operate a wiki, being an bureaucrat of one already.

    So theres that.
