The Interceptor is a land-based Vehicle used by the Cabal. Whilst sluggish by the standards of Fallen or Guardian vehicles, the Interceptor is nonetheless quite fast for a Cabal-made vehicle, able to get around the battlefield and move between hotzones quickly or provide fire support to Cabal squads in the field. Heavily armed and armored, it is designed to cut down retreating forces, provide mobile fire support, and help move up a battle line. It is normally driven by Cabal Psions, but can be easily driven by Guardians as well.
The Interceptor is a heavy, single-pilot vehicle. It features heavy composite armor plating and a pair of high-powered Projection Cannons, based on the Cabal Projection Rifle, that shoot powerful incendiary rockets that do Solar Damage. The bulk of the vehicle's superstructure is taken up by its massive drive engines and munitions stores for the Projection Cannons. These cannons have a distinct arcing trajectory, and due to the high heat buildup between shots, are designed to alternate between firing from the left and right cannon, respectively.
Though an open-topped vehicle, the Interceptor provides ample cover to the driver, especially from the front. The back and sides are less protected, but as a whole, the Interceptor exposes the driver much less than comparable vehicles. The Interceptor is powered by four extremely heavy thrust-vectored engines that enable the vehicle to move at surprising speeds, though its mass means that it is cursed with bad maneuverability. Communications equipment, sensors, and a targeting system for the Projection Cannons are located right in front of the driver's seat in a dashboard configuration. A small computerized display ensures that the pilot need not lean over the Interceptor's hood to see what's ahead. A heavily-reinforced ramming prow is affixed to the front of the vehicle.
Interceptors in CombatEdit
Compared to the Fallen Pike, the Interceptor is far heavier and tougher - roughly twice as durable, in fact, and with massive firepower - the powerful Projection Cannons are capable of dealing heavy damage to even armored vehicles, and can rip apart lightly-armored vehicles like the Sparrow in the blink of an eye. The Interceptor's Projection Cannons are difficult to use at first, requiring a bit of practice to get used to their alternating fire locations and trajectory - but they are devastating when employed correctly. In the Crucible, these rockets can kill almost instantly any Guardian with the misfortune of being hit dead-on by one.
The Interceptor does have its drawbacks, however. It is both a much larger vehicle and much less maneuverable than the Pike; the Interceptor is rather ponderous, and due to its enormous mass, carries considerable momentum, which makes it rather slow to turn and makes it corner somewhat poorly. Despite its rather poor maneuverability, however, only a fool thinks the Interceptor is slow: its four massive engines provide it with enormous amounts of forward thrust when needed, allowing the Interceptor to scream forward in a short-but-intense burst of speed. The ramming prow isn't for show - the Interceptor is capable of flat-out destroying smaller craft or obliterating Turrets by simply smashing through them with the engines at full burn, making it quite capable of bulldozing its way through enemy forces.
Facing Interceptors in combat can be extremely difficult for the unprepared. Due to their heavy armor and the large amount of protection they afford their pilots, it can be extremely hard to take out the driver. Thankfully, this is one area where the Interceptor's massive size works against it - Interceptors cannot evade enemy fire, which makes them easy targets for sniper rifles and rocket launchers. The Interceptor's Projection Cannons have a very limited angle of elevation, which makes them rather vulnerable from above. Magnetic Grenades, Flux Grenades, and Fusion Grenades are all extremely effective against Interceptors, as are most Super Abilities, especially Golden Gun, Fist of Havoc, and Nova Bomb. Turrets are also highly effective against Interceptors at longer ranges, but care must be taken, since the Interceptor can easily kill a Turret's operator, if not destroy the Turret itself. In skilled hands, Pike pilots can take down an Interceptor; the Pike's fast movement, ability to strafe, and powerful Shock Cannons means it can wear the Interceptor down whilst avoiding its shots, but a Pike driver should take care - the Interceptor can easily kill a driver with its rockets, and getting rammed by an Interceptor will destroy the Pike outright.
