The Destiny Public Beta is a free, open-to-all beta test of Destiny that will launch in the summer of 2014.[1] The time period for the Beta, which was originally announced for "early 2014",[2] was pushed back to coincide with Destiny's delayed launch date.[1]
The Beta will encompass most of the major game modes and activities that will be available in the final game, and will only be guaranteed available to those who have pre-ordered a copy of Destiny[3] (but note that Bungie also occasionally has given away Beta access codes on its website, social media accounts, and as contest rewards).[4][5] During the PlayStation 4 launch, Bungie announced that the Beta will be available on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms first,[6] but there has been no confirmation as to how much sooner that will be as opposed to its launch on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
